God is not a white man

God is not a white man / But God is good / And He loves everyone!

These are some of the lyrics to one of my favorite Gungor songs.  Gungor is a worship band that has deep lyrics and great arrangements for their music.  A friend of mine sent me the link to the video for the song, which is fun and creative.  Go ahead, grab a listen.  Tell me what you think of the best part of the song—the chorus—THEN come back and dialogue about the song.

Wait for iiiiiiiiiit.  My favorite line came from casually listening to the song while working on a project with a colleague.  When Gungor sings the word “lesbians” in a worship song, it naturally caught our ears.  I think the converstation went something like this:

“What do you think abou—wait, did he just say ‘lesbians?’”

“Yeah, I thought I heard that, too!  This is a worship CD; let’s rewind that!”

“Yup, they totally put that word in there, right alongside a dirty word: televangelists.”  [Laughter]

Now: dialogue!

I’m honored to be part of this post. I love this song because it’s cute and fun but has some profound meaning in it. God is love and loves everyone regardless of the labels we throw on them.

Good song. Brought Matt. 9:9-13 to mind. Imagine if we were all willing to truly love like Jesus. There would be a lot more critics, haters, and doubters joining the ‘parade.’ My favorite line, btw, “God does not belong to Republicans.”
